Tour Plan

Day 1 Mtende Beach Itinerary

Mtende Beach is located in a small cove and features two large rock formations making the scenery incredible. Mtende Beach is one of the few beaches in Zanzibar that features the ability to watch the tides come in and out and how they change the scenery.

There is a large fun swing attached to one of the rock formations and I recommend going on it. The tide will rise and lower and it is fun to swing when the water is high. Mtende Beach offers stunning views of the rocks that surround the beach, and features a number of small creatures that live in the tide pools. The main features of Mtende Beach is that people can come to relax and tan and they can enjoy going to the water. The beaches in Zanzibar are beautiful and Mtende Beach is no exception to that.

When it comes to tides, you can find some of the most extreme examples of tidal changes in Zanzibar, as is the case with Mtende Beach. Make sure to check the tide schedule for your visit: you can walk the full length of the beach at low tide, but at high tide the water comes all the way up to the steps. Using the tide schedule will help you maximize your time on the beach.

Things to Keep in Mind:

Mtende Beach is beautiful, but is not very accessible for those in wheelchairs, or people that need help walking. There are some areas with steep or uneven stairs. When the beach comes in, the water can be rough, and there are some treacherous rocks. There are also a lot of sea urchins, so be careful in the darker water. Please be careful and enjoy the beach!
